Withdrawal

So, as you all know, I finished my first complete draft this past Friday. This means that I’ve been thinking about the novel the entire weekend, wanting to read it through, but each time, not being able to because I’m too close to the work and so can’t read it without wanting to edit it. I know how my writing mind works: I have to work and work, and then leave it alone for a couple months to be completely unassociated with it. Look at it with fresh eyes. I just love the ending, though. Not how it’s written, but the feeling of it. The mood. The atmosphere and hope.
Exciting New Links!

Bloomsbury, an independent publisher whose home is the UK, has a wonderful Writer’s Area with articles about how to submit materials, approach a publisher, what you can expect an agent to do for you, and even lists agents from the US and UK/Ireland. I spent quite a bit of time here. They also have a Research Center, which I haven’t played around with yet, but they claim to have over 17,000 cross-referenced, free entries that you can utilize for your writing. I’m just itching to try it out! (And yes, this is the publisher that found J.K.Rowling.)
New Website Layout

Well, it’s official. I changed the name of this blog, and I added the domain name that will eventually be the official domain for my website: Worderella. Spent some time tonight playing with the layout and trying to make it professional, clean, and yet keeping that hint of something historical so readers don’t get confused.
Sweet vs Spicy
General, Writing » RomanceSeptember 27th, 2006
Recently, a friend and I were discussing trends in the romance industry. She would like to see an upswing in historicals, specifically, Victorian-set historicals. “But,” she says, “historicals seem to have gone either super-sweet, or super-erotic. I want something in the middle, like they used to be.”
The previous was taken from the most recent blog post at Romancing the Blog. On the one hand, I’m glad to see I’m currently writing something someone is looking for: a Victorian-set historical which could be categorized as sweet. And so my topic for this entry emerges…
Why is sweet romance looked down upon as immature and YA (young adult) only?
The Lake House
General » Work-in-ProgressAugust 30th, 2006
Today I went to the dollar theater with my mother and sister to see The Lake House. Yes, it was a romantic drama, yes, it was a sort of time travel story, and yes, there were some definite holes in the logic of the story, as are most time travel plots. However, I am not writing to simply pick at The Lake House, I’m writing about it because it sort of affirms why I write romance.
Guide to Book Publishing

Things to keep in mind about publishing. A series of reputable articles (there are about seven of them right now, and more coming in the future) that every writer should be familiar with.
I’m still alive, I swear

Well. It’s been four months since I’ve written anything here. All right, well, let’s see what happened. For a while there I really didn’t have time to write anything. There were deaths in the family and in the families of some close friends. Then, I became really sick with a horrible sinus infection and we made an emergency hospital visit. I also became obsessively concerned about my grades. Haha so…yeah, I’ve been busy!
Winter Quarter
General »February 16th, 2006
I hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine’s Day. I survived my weed out class, obviously, but this current quarter has been a lot more intense than I expected. All the same, I’ve gotten a lot of good editing completed, The Winslow Charade is coming along nicely, I think. I wish I had more to update you guys on, but as I’m just a poor college student majoring in Engineering rather than English….um….yeah.
Certain Death

Weed-out class this quarter. I’m glad I got so much writing and research done this summer. Look for me in January.
